Calderón de la Barca and the color of the world

Calderon de la Barca placed in the natural environment many of the actions of his plays. This famous quote shows his love for nature

Pedro Calderón de la Barca (1600-1681) was a playwright, writer and priest of the Spanish Golden Age. He is considered one of the greatest references of Baroque literature, especially for its theatrical production.

In his very extensive literary production -around two hundred works- Calderon de la Barca frequently uses the natural environment, where many of the plays take place. He stated his fondness for nature with this famous quote: "Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises."
