836 million people still live in extreme poverty. The first of the Sustainable Development Goals, promulgated by the United Nations in 2015, is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.

Significant progress has already been made, since in a decade -between 2002 and 2012- the population living below the poverty line was cut in half: from 26% to 13%. However, there is still a long way to go to meet this goal of the 2030 Agenda.
