Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announced in 2016 that the hole in the ozone layer had been reduced by four million square kilometers since 2000.

At the end of the last century the hole on the Antarctic had reached its greater size, and at present it is estimated that by the middle of the present century could be completely closed.
